Czujko

Stephen Czujko is an archaeologist. He received a Ph.D. from the University of Missouri (2024) in Ancient Mediterranean Studies, an M.A. in Classics from the University of Arizona (2017), and a B.A. in Classics from Denison University (2013). He combines specializations in Greek archaeology and Classics with expertise in archaeological science. Stephen teaches courses on Greek Art and Archaeology, Archaeological Science, and Greek and Latin Language.

Stephen’s main area of research is the archaeology of the Eastern Mediterranean and Aegean Late Bronze Age, with a focus on the development of imitation, derivative Mycenaean pottery. His research relies on both traditional stylistic analysis and scientific approaches, such as neutron activation analysis (NAA) and petrography, to characterize pottery provenance and reconstruct different modes of production. His interest in archaeological science stems from his time as a graduate researcher at the Archaeometry Laboratory at the University of Missouri Research Reactor (MURR). Stephen serves as one of the Assistant Directors at the Mt. Lykaion Excavation and Survey Project, an archaeological excavation in Greece, of which he has been a member going back to 2016. He has also worked at projects in Romania and Israel.
