Sara is the inaugural Art Collection Manager for the Swarthmore College Art Collection and joined the staff in August 2023. She plays a pivotal role in the preservation, documentation, interpretation, and public appreciation of the collection. Also serving as registrar, she oversees the storage and transportation of works of art, documents and prepares works for display, and oversees the collection database. Sara also develops new policies and strategies, researches collection strengths, prioritizes and implements conservation, and responds to inquiries from donors and researchers.
Sara comes to Swarthmore with more than 18 years of experience in collections management, most recently as head of collections and senior registrar at the Brandywine Museum of Art, where she oversaw all registration and collections management activities for the museum and its historic properties. She has extensive experience with strategic planning, database conversion, the launch of online collections, and managing complex collaborative projects. Sara received a B.F.A.in printmaking from Tyler School of Art in 2000 and an M.A. in Museum Communication from the University of the Arts in 2005. Prior to her over almost 10 year tenure at Brandywine, Sara was the collections registrar at the James A. Michener Art Museum (2007–2014) and collections manager at the Philip and Muriel Berman Museum of Art at Ursinus College (2005-2007). Throughout her career, she has been an active participant, presenter and lead facilitator at professional conferences, including the Association of Registrars and Collections Specialists, where she serves on the Courier Sub-committee of the Education Committee. She is also co-founder and organizer of the Delaware Valley Registrars Network.
