Matt Walsh

Matt Walsh began as Swarthmore’s Title IX Coordinator on July 28, reporting to the Office for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. He brings to this work a passion and commitment to the equitable treatment of all students, faculty, and staff members at the College.

In this role, Matt will coordinate and provide education, training, and support for all members of the campus community to prevent and respond to incidents of sexual violence, harassment, and other forms of gender-based inequity at the College. He will also coordinate the College’s response and investigation of Title IX complaints and maintain responsibility for aligning College policy with federal laws. Matt welcomes collaborations with students, staff, and faculty in this work.

A Havertown, Pa., native, Matt comes to Swarthmore from the University of Illinois Chicago where, for four years as a Title IX and civil rights investigator, he managed reports of violations related to sexual misconduct, discrimination, and harassment. Prior to that, Matt promoted and educated K-12 students about healthy relationships, consent, and anti-harassment. He also served as the Title IX trainer for Chicago Public Schools, working specifically with principals and administrators. Matt holds a B.A. in women and gender studies from DePaul University and an M.Ed. from University of Illinois Chicago.

Matt’s office is located in the Title IX House on Field House Lane, across from the Matchbox.  He can be reached at mwalsh2@swarthmore.edu or 610-328-8253. You can also use the Workshop Request form to request a meeting for your team, club, department, hall, or group.

Be sure to watch for him as he bikes through campus!
