In Honor and Remembrance

President Valerie Smith sent the following message to the community on September 11, 2016:

Dear Members of the Swarthmore Community,

Today we mark the 15th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 that took nearly 3,000 lives at the World Trade Center in NYC, the Pentagon in Washington DC, and near Shanksville, PA. In observance of this day of remembrance, the flag above Parrish Hall has been lowered to half mast and the College bells will toll an extended fifteen times at noon.

We reflect today on the lives lost and countless injured, the bereaved families and courageous first responders, and those who survived but were forever changed by the devastating events.  On this solemn occasion let us take a moment to remember and honor them.

Sincerely,

Valerie Smith
President
