A Note of Gratitude

Dear Friends,

I’m writing to express my heartfelt gratitude for the planning and orchestration of an exceptional Commencement weekend for the Class of 2023! From the departmental celebrations to the Swattie sendoff in the ’Ville to the fireworks and, of course, the ceremony itself, the weekend was a resounding success! I appreciate the challenges of moving yet again to a new location. The work paid off; the ceremony on Parrish Beach nestled between Clothier and Parrish Halls was simply stunning.

I wish to extend a special thanks to those of you who serve on our Commencement Committee, and our colleagues from Advancement, the Arboretum, the Campus & Community Store, Communications, Dining Services, Environmental Services, Events Management, Facilities, Grounds, the Lang Performing Arts Center, the Provost’s Office, Public Safety, the Registrar’s Office, Student Affairs, and all of you who volunteered your time this weekend for creating a joyful, memorable experience for our students, families, and friends.

I had the pleasure of talking with numerous graduates and their family members and friends following the ceremony who expressed their overwhelming joy and appreciation for the wonderful weekend.

Videos, photographs, speeches, and other facets of the celebration can be found on the College’s social media channels and on our Commencement site, which our colleagues in the Communications Office will continue to update throughout the day.

Once more, I extend my gratitude for all you do for the College, for each other, and for our students.

Sincerely,

Val Smith
President
