Matt Walsh Joins Swarthmore Community as Title IX Coordinator

Matt Walsh began his tenure as Swarthmore’s Title IX Coordinator on July 28, reporting to the Office for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
"Matt brings to this work a passion and commitment to the equitable treatment of all students, faculty, and staff members at the College," says Vice President for Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Brooke Vick.
In this role, Walsh will coordinate and provide education, training, and support for all members of the campus community to prevent and respond to incidents of sexual violence, harassment, and other forms of gender-based inequity at the College. He will also coordinate the College’s response and investigation of Title IX complaints and maintain responsibility for aligning College policy with federal laws. Walsh welcomes collaborations with students, staff, and faculty in this work.
A Havertown, Pa., native, he comes to Swarthmore from the University of Illinois Chicago where, for four years as a Title IX and civil rights investigator, he managed reports of violations related to sexual misconduct, discrimination, and harassment. Prior to that, Walsh promoted and educated K-12 students about healthy relationships, consent, and anti-harassment. He also served as the Title IX trainer for Chicago Public Schools, working specifically with principals and administrators. Walsh holds a B.A. in women and gender studies from DePaul University and an M.Ed. from University of Illinois Chicago.
