Film & Media Studies Professor Sunka Simon Examines German TV

Sunka Simon

Professor of German and Film and Media Studies Sunka Simon’s latest book, German Crime Dramas from Network TV to Netflix (Bloomsbury Press 2023), is newly available in paperback. The book examines German television crime dramas Tatort, Babylon Berlin, Dark, Perfume, and Dogs of Berlin to uncover the intersections between the genre's media-specific network and post-network formats and how these negotiate with and contribute to concepts of the regional, national, and global.

Simon also authored an article on Dark, which is forthcoming in the book Illuminating Netflix's Dark (Palgrave Macmillan 2026), and guest-edited a special issue of the Canadian journal, Seminar 2025: German Television in the Convergence Era.
