Sigma Xi Annual Poster Session
If you have conducted scientific research over the summer, consider presenting your work at Sigma Xi’s fall poster session. Any on-or off-campus research conducted in Linguistics, Psychology, Math & Stats, Engineering, Physics & Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry & Biochem, or Computer Science is eligible.
The poster session will be held on Thursday, September 24, 3:00pm – 5:00pm and Friday, September 25, 11:00am – 1:30pm in Singer Commons. While you are encouraged to stand with your poster for as much of this time as you can to engage with attendees and answer questions, we are only requiring presenters to be present from 12:30pm-1:30pm on Friday (12:30pm-1pm if you have a Friday afternoon class).
If you are interested in presenting a poster please fill out this google form by Friday Sept. 11th. If you have done research in collaboration with other students, you may work together and jointly present one poster, but you need only fill out the form once. You’ll be asked to upload an abstract, which is a 250-500 word description of your research, its goals, and your results. More guidelines on how to format the abstract are here. You can find more poster session instructions here.
Presenting also makes you eligible to join Sigma Xi, a national organization that honors, recognizes, and supports scientific research and promotes scientific education. Our chapter covers student members’ dues. Please fill out a membership form to become a member of our chapter. Sigma Xi membership gives you access to up to $750 in additional funding through the Provost’s office to present your work at conferences. Our chapter also hosts several talks and events during the academic year. As a new member, you will be required to attend one Sigma Xi event to be inducted.
