Critical Mass
Medieval-Renaissance Vocal Chamber Ensemble
Our newest ensemble, Critical Mass, is a mixed-voice, small-scale chamber ensemble of approximately 12 select singers. Our music making focuses on 500 years of choral music from the twelfth to seventeenth centuries (think Gregorian chant to Monteverdi). Our process is highly collaborative and members will sing their voice part with 1 or 2 other singers. Our performance repertoire features music by composers such as Machaut, Hildegard von Bingen, Byrd, Monteverdi, Lassus, Victoria, Palestrina, and many more! Weekly rehearsals are on Thursdays from 4:15pm-6:15pm in Lang Concert Hall, plus an additional hour per week in smaller groups (sectionals), day and time TBA.
Auditions for Critical Mass will take place on September 2-3, 2026. Click HERE to sign up for an audition time. Auditions will include a brief warm-up, a brief sight-reading exercise, a pre-assigned excerpt of ensemble music to prepare, and a short portion of any song of your choice sung as a solo.
Rehearsals will begin Thursday, September 3, 2026.
