Admissions Outlook
In the 2026 application cycle, 23,440 applicants were accepted to allopathic (MD) medical school out of 54,699 who applied, for an overall acceptance rate of 43%. However, the acceptance rate at any given school is considerably lower. At Albany Medical College, for example, less than 1% of the total number of applicants matriculated (141 out of 14,157); at Drexel, 2% (305 out of 16,547). The outlook for Swarthmore premedical students is much better than the overall acceptance rate of 43%. Our acceptance rate in the 2026 application cycle was 75% — substantially higher than the national average — a record that few other colleges can claim.
