Experience

  • Team Leader and Senior Analytical Chemist, International Paper, Franklin, Virginia
    • Responsible for laboratory testing programs to address process and product quality, quality control and process stability, and state/federally regulated air/water/wastewater issues.
    • Championed acquisition of state of the art instrument systems, including FTIR, gas chromatography, ion and liquid chromatography, and bench top test/measurement systems.
    • Utilized SPC (statistical process control) and GMP (good manufacturing practice) principles to ensure integrity of procedures and quality of test results.
  • Adjunct Professor of Chemistry, Richmond, Virginia area colleges
    • Added value to curriculum by tying lessons to current medical, consumer, and environmental issues.
  • Post Doctoral Research Associate, Measurement and Control Engineering Center, College of Engineering, University of Tennessee, Knoxville
    • Developed novel fiber optic FT-Raman spectroscopic instrumentation for on-line composition analysis for process control of chemical distillation columns.
  • Consultant, Oak Ridge Gaseous Diffusion Plant, Oak Ridge, Tennessee
    • Wrote data acquisition and custom control system for Raman spectrometer system before friendly PC-based systems were commercially available.
