Summer Housing 2015

Summer 2015

A limited amount of housing is available for Swarthmore students during Summer 2015. The College is piloting a program which will allow students to pick from a variety of terms, in order to best meet student needs.

Members of the Class of 2018, 2017, and 2016 are eligible for summer housing. Graduating students are not eligible for Summer housing. If you are currently on a Leave of Absence from the College, you must be in contact with the Office of Student Engagement to determine eligibility.

Summer housing will be located in Parrish residence hall.

Students must apply for a specific summer term. Please note that Summer A is only available to students who are required to be on campus due to academic research, international students and/or extenuating personal circumstances. Since the College is piloting running multiple sessions during the summer, the move-in and move-out dates are FIRM dates. Students may not move in earlier than or move out later than the session program dates. Students may move in AFTER the move-in date and may move out BEFORE the move-out date and will coordinate this with the Office of Student Engagement. Students should select the summer term that best meets their needs

Room Assignments:

Students will be assigned a room/roommate by the Office of Student Engagement. There are singles, doubles, and triple occupancy rooms; the rent is the same no matter room type. If you have a roommate preference, we will do everything possible to accommodate your request; however, we cannot guarantee specific room assignments or preferences.

Parrish 3rd and 4th will be gender-neutral/co-ed during the Summer 2015 term. The bathrooms will be single-gender, and assigned based on the number of applications. Please see the application for more information about room assignments and roommates.

We typically have enough housing to accommodate all student requests. In the event that we have more applications than available rooms, the following priority will be used to determine assignments:

  1. International students
  2. Students taking part in academic research with the College
  3. Students working with an official College office (Lang Center, Admissions, Orientation, etc.)
  4. Students working in the Philadelphia area
  5. Other current students

Air Conditioning:

We believe that we will be able to offer common area and room air conditioning in Parrish West wing. The availability of this service is dependent upon a current construction project. If the project is not completed on-time, air conditioning may not be available. The project is currently on track and we believe that A/C will be provided, but in the event of an unforeseen delay, we will be in contact with residents. If the College has more applications for summer housing than available rooms in the West Wing, the East Wing will be made available. The East Wing of Parrish will NOT have air conditioning in individual rooms.

Meal Plan:

The College does not currently provide a summer meal plan. There will be two small kitchens available in Parrish Hall for summer students. Essie Mae’s and the Coffee Bars will also be open during the summer (with limited hours). As you budget for the summer, you should take into account the cost of eating outside of the meal plan.

Supportive Services:

Many College offices do not offer services during the summer. Worth Health Center and CAPS are not available for students; Public Safety and the Dean’s Office are available to support the needs of summer students.

Very limited storage is available for summer residents. We encourage you to store as many of your items as possible at the end of the spring term, and pack lightly for your summer experience!! You should plan to not bring more with you than you would be able to take with you when you move out at the end of summer

Spring Move-Out:

please note that the College residence halls CLOSE to non-graduating students on Monday, May 18th. You must plan for interim housing if you are not moving directly into Summer Housing.

Fall Move-In:

Please note that the College residence halls OPEN to returning students on Friday, August 28th.

How to Apply:

To request summer housing, please submit the Summer 2015 application no later than Friday, April 10th. After April 10th, applications will be accepted on a rolling basis. You can find the application by clicking here. Only electronic applications will be accepted—no paper applications.
