The Eighth International Conference on Teaching Chinese as a Second Language

Swarthmore College hosted the Eighth International Conference on Teaching Chinese as a Second Language during the weekend of June 9-10, 2023. The conference received 154 abstracts of papers from 23 countries or regions, and attendance exceeded 100 participants. We thank President Valerie Smith for delivering the opening speech and Provost Tomoko Sakomura for providing the closing remarks. Professor Luciano Martínez introduced the President and Provost and presented a paper entitled Untangling the Intricate Interplay of Language and Literature Instruction. This was a successful event involving collaboration among several departments across the college.
