Cynthia Shi is a Sustainability and Engaged Scholarship Fellow at Swarthmore College. In this role, Cynthia works with the Office of Sustainability and the Lang Center for Civic & Social Responsibility and provides support to the Green Advisor Program and Chester Semester Fellowship Program. This year, Cynthia is also a part of the Crum Woods Stewardship Committee and the Food Systems Working Group on campus. She will also be involved in the Environmental Justice and Community Resilience initiative as she strives to promote intersectional sustainability and ethical community engagement.  

Originally from Beijing, China, Cynthia graduated from Swarthmore College in 2023, earning a B.A. in Environmental Anthropology and Classical Studies. Throughout her time at Swarthmore College as an undergraduate, Cynthia worked as a Green Advisor in the Office of Sustainability from 2020-2022; served as a Residential Assistant her senior year; and worked with the Scott Arboretum as a Good Food Garden manager. Additionally, she interned with Paepae O He’eia, a non-profit organization in Hawai’i, as a restoration project intern. These experiences furthered her commitment to sustainability and community empowerment.
