Inclusive Excellence Fellows Initiative

In Spring 2020, the Inclusive Excellence Leadership Team partnered with the Diversity Peer Advisor Program Leadership Team to develop a re-imagined diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) project-based peer initiative. This led to the creation of the Inclusive Excellence Fellows Initiative, which was launched as a pilot in Spring 2021.

This initiative is designed to foster a campus climate of inclusive excellence by creating a project-based peer diversity program that targets DEI issues at Swarthmore College to increase diverse recruitment/retention, create opportunities for development and programming, and improve communication and coordination for DEI work.

Anti-Racism Project

“To be an anti-racist is to think nothing is behaviorally wrong or right — inferior or superior — with any of the racial groups. Whenever the anti-racist sees individuals behaving positively or negatively, the anti-racist sees exactly that: individuals behaving positively or negatively, not representatives of whole races. To be anti-racist is to deradicalize behavior, to remove the tattooed stereotype from every racialized body. Behavior is something humans do, not races do.” (Ibram X. Kendi, How to Be an Antiracist, p. 105)

Connecting with Alumni Project

This project fosters connections between underrepresented students and alumni so that students can navigate professional opportunities during COVID-19.
