Statistician Lynne Steuerle Schofield '99 Receives National Teaching Award

Lynne Steuerle Schofield '99

Associate Professor of Statistics Lynne Steuerle Schofield '99 recently received the Waller Education Award from the American Statistical Association in recognition of her outstanding contributions to and innovations in the teaching of elementary statistics.

"It’s a huge honor," says Schofield. "I am incredibly grateful to my colleagues Professor of Statistics Steve C. Wang, Professor of Statistics Phil Everson, and the rest of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics for nominating me."

Each year, the honor goes to one educator who has 10 or fewer years of full-time teaching experience and teaches an introductory-level course in statistics. Wang received the award in 2008, and Schofield's recognition makes Swarthmore the only institution with more than one Waller Education Award recipient on its faculty.

Schofield was also recently named the College's next associate provost of faculty diversity and development.

"I am looking forward to having the opportunity to continue to teach while also working with and learning from a wide variety of faculty and staff," she says.
