The Employee Handbook describes important information about your employment and benefits at Swarthmore College. Please reach out to Human Resources with any questions regarding the handbook and the policies therein.

This handbook and the policies and procedures contained herein supersede any and all prior practices, oral or written representations, or statements regarding the terms and conditions of employment with Swarthmore College.

Nothing in the employee handbook creates, or is intended to create, a promise or representation of continued employment. Employment at Swarthmore College is employment at-will, which may be terminated at the will of either the College or the employee. This handbook is neither a contract of employment nor a legal document.

The policies stated in this handbook, along with all other policies, procedures, benefits, and other programs, are subject to change. From time to time, you may receive updated information concerning changes to a policy. For the most current information, please check the Human Resources website.

Unless specifically designated as a staff policy, the policies and procedures within this handbook apply to both faculty and staff. While every effort will be made to eliminate conflicts between policies, the policies and procedures in the Employee Handbook take precedence over similar policies or procedures in the Handbook for Instructional Staff.

The Employee Handbook is available online; you can access all chapters of the handbook through the Table of Contents below, and easily search for information on specific policies and procedures. A hard copy may be provided, upon request, to those staff members who do not have regular access to the internet.

All employees are required to acknowledge that they’ve reviewed the Employee Handbook and familiarized themselves with the policies therein.
