Welcome Missy Furth!

Missy Furth stands in a greenhouse and holds a dog over her shoulder.

The Swarthmore Theater Department is thrilled to welcome Missy Furth as our new Production Assistant. Missy will be working with Stephen in the shop to build our sets and construct props, and you may find her stage managing a show or two as well!

Missy comes to us with a background in props and scenery. She has worked in many different industries as a "fabricator", making store displays, commercial holiday decor, mural painting, molding and casting, art installations and events. Says Missy, "I really just like working with my hands and creating engaging environments." One of her favorite projects (outside the theater world) was painting a new parkour gym in Los Angeles- essentially a big adult playground! Within the theater world, one of Missy's favorite recent projects was a pop art design for The Curtis Institute of Music, featuring pink polka dot desks, orange-striped green velvet couches, and 60s lamps.

Missy is excited to be joining us at Swarthmore because of our intimate size, and the opportunity to be around young, enthusiastic energy. She is also a fan of the beautiful gardens on campus. She explained, "My job for the last three years was in the horticultural field and my passion for plants really grew (pun intended). Plants make people happy, and it felt meaningful to bring the benefits of plants into people's lives."

We're all so happy to have Missy as a part of our team, and for her to share her fabrication knowledge with our community. Welcome, Missy!
