Swarthmore College is one of over 90 members of the Coalition for Access, Affordability, and Success, a collective effort by many of the nation’s colleges to elevate the importance of college affordability and success for all students. Coalition member colleges must graduate at least 70% of their students (Swarthmore has a 6-year graduation rate of 94%) and private college members must meet 100% of a student’s demonstrated financial need (Swarthmore meets the full demonstrated financial need of all admitted students with loan-free financial aid awards).
The Coalition platform includes a Virtual Locker where students can store materials of their choosing, such as essay drafts or video recordings of performances, and a Collaboration Space where students can share materials with mentors, teachers, and counselors as appropriate (students should not share this material with Swarthmore admissions officers through the Collaboration Space). In addition, the Coalition allows students to prepare and submit a college application to member colleges.
In addition to the Coalition Application Essay Prompt (students respond to one of 5 essay prompts), applicants to Swarthmore via the Coalition Application are asked to respond to the following short-answer prompt:
Please write about why you are interested in applying to and attending Swarthmore. (250 word limit)
Swarthmore does not have a preference among any of our application options. Students are asked to submit only one application in an application year.
