Life Outside the Classroom

Collage of students in the dining hall, on campus, and in Philadelphia

"Before you know it, you will have 15 more siblings in your family."
- Summer Scholar '19

The Summer Scholars Program is a residential experience for all 16 participants. As a Summer Scholar, you will live in a Swarthmore residence hall, a short walk from the academic buildings. All student mentors will live in with you during the five-week program. They will be available during evening and weekend hours. Weeknights will include study sessions and other homework activities that would be typical during the academic year.

"These five weeks have been amazing, and they are just the beginning of what I know will be an incredible year for the scholars. I look forward to continuing the relationships we all have formed."
- Olivia Edwards '16, student mentor

In addition to its academic program, the Summer Scholars Program includes weekend activities that will ease your transition to college and help you become comfortable with Swarthmore's campus culture. You will have the opportunity to visit local museums, biomedical and tech firms, historical sites, and gardens. You will learn about the many cultural, historical, and scientific resources of the Philadelphia metro area, and have time to relax, too!
