About Collage

"This experience has made me really excited for the fall and to meet the rest of the people of Swarthmore. I know that when we come back to campus in the fall, we will walk in with a support group of students and professors that will be very advantageous, and it is thanks to the S3P program."
- Summer Scholar '19

The Summer Scholars Program opens doors for students who are first in their family to attend college, come from a low-income background, or belong to a traditionally underrepresented group, and have a self-described interest in STEM fields. From June 26 - July 30, 2016, 16 students will participate in this residential program, which combines vigorous academic work and classic college life. If you are selected as a Summer Scholar, you will be immersed in the Swarthmore experience before classes begin in the fall. Faculty members will guide you in the classroom, and you'll get a taste of campus life as well. In addition, you'll explore the diversity of cultural, social, research, and employment opportunities in the Philadelphia area. There is no fee for this program; in fact, you will receive a stipend of $2,375 as part of your participation.

""Make mistakes. Don't be afraid to make mistakes and move forward. Everyone fails at some point. The important thing is to learn and move forward."
- Summer Scholar '19

Summer Scholar students continue to receive benefits after the five-week pre-college program ends; the program director, dean, and faculty members provide ongoing mentoring that can help you thrive at Swarthmore. If you are interested in an experience that will teach you important skills like time management, communication, and work/life balance, the Summer Scholars Program is an amazing opportunity.

Applications for this unique program are due May 16, 2016.
