Globalization and the Environment Program

The Globalization and the Environment Program, coordinated by a Macalaster-Pomona-Swarthmore consortium, focuses on environmental issues in South Africa. We are now expanding the program to include students in Education who are interested in environmental issues but who are also interested in educational issues as they play out in South Africa (e.g., literacy, equity, intersections between schools and communities and the environment, etc.). Students in the program take an introductory seminar co-taught by a faculty member from one of the consortium schools and a faculty member from University of Capetown. The rest of the program is built around an independent study project undertaken by each student that requires field work, overseen by a faculty mentor at UCT. Supporting the independent study project are two regular UCT semester courses. The program runs from January-June.
