Mandatory Insurance Policy
Students must have health insurance. Each year students are required to complete the Insurance Enrollment Form. The Dean's office will send this form every spring, requiring all students to indicate their intention to decline or enroll in the college health plan. Students who decline the college health plan must send proof of insurance by mailing a copy of both sides of their current insurance card to Worth Health Center, 500 College Ave, Swarthmore, PA 19081 or by updating their insurance information in the student's mySwarthmore.
In order to waive coverage, your current plan should meet the following requirements:
- Be effective through the end of the spring semester
- Provide for local emergency and urgent care
- Cover local hospital admissions
- Provide health coverage while studying abroad
Medical services that students receive outside of Worth Health Center are billed through the medical providers not by the college. For example, emergency room care, hospital services, radiology services, and medical specialists outside of Worth Health Center are not college health services and will be billed through the particular provider.
It is the responsibility of the insured student to contact their insurance provider for pre-certifications and/or referrals as needed. The Student Health Service does not directly bill medical insurance plans. Any labs done at the SHS will be billed to the student's insurance by Quest Diagnostics (Our laboratory service company). It is the responsibility of the insured person to understand and request information from their insurance company regarding covered services.
