Smoking Policy

Satya Nelms spoke to SAC about the draft Smoking Policies. There are currently 2 draft policies being vetted on campus. The policies have already been channeled to the Dean's Advisor Committee and Rachel Head. There are concerns about enforcement and signage on campus. A SAC member suggested possibly putting receptacle 25 feet from buildings instead of signs. The polices will need to go through the President's Staff for a decision.

It was also suggested that they might want to talk to the Wellness Group to discuss non-smoking initiatives.

All Staff Meeting

The next All-Staff Meeting will be on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at 10 AM in the Lang Concert Hall. Possible agenda topics will include: Ralph Thayer on the Climate Action Plan, Budget Briefing, An overview of the Suzanne P. Welsh award and introductions of our new Vice Presidents.

Suzanne P Welsh Award

College needs to select a committee that, at a minimum, must include a member from SAC, AAC, Human Resources and the Board of Managers. The committee will be presented to the Board of Managers in May for approval and will start working in the Fall on the criteria for selection that will be recommended to the Board of Managers and President for approval. Solicitations for nominations will come from the community. The first winner will be announced at the All Staff Meeting in the spring of 2013.

Piano in Parrish Parlors

A complaint was raised that sometimes the piano playing in the parlor is intrusive to their work. It was suggested that the person either shut their door and if that doesn't solve the issue to approach the person playing the piano and explain the situation to see if they could possibly play a little softer or maybe come back another time to practice.

Being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 10:35am

Respectfully submitted,
