Swarthmore Connect Mobile App
No matter where you live or how busy you are, connect with other alumni and keep up to date on the latest Swarthmore College and alumni news with Swarthmore Connect!
Swarthmore Connect, powered by EverTrue, is a mobile app for smartphone users to connect with fellow alumni and the College. Swarthmore Connect is not a replacement for the online directory but is a mobile tool that draws information from public social media platforms and the College's database records. It is only accessible to alumni of Swarthmore College.
Swarthmore Connect is now live! Download it now:
- Alumni directory searchable by name, class year, and/or company/industry
- Nearby function lets you search for alumni by location and view results on a map
- Integration with LinkedIn and Facebook (optional)
- Swarthmore social media streams from Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube
- iPod Touch
We do not yet support the following devices:
- Windows Phone
iOS Users – Swarthmore Connect has an update! (Android update coming soon)
In the previous version of Swarthmore Connect, users authenticated their account and device via email. An additional 4-digit PIN was required to log in to the app. With this most recent upgrade you can register and enter your app using LinkedIn Authentication, eliminating the need for a PIN or to verify your device with a confirmation email. If you do not have LinkedIn or prefer not to use LinkedIn Authentication you will be prompted to create a password instead.
Additional improvements with this update includes:
- Easier to use app navigation
- Search by city, state, or zip within the “Alumni Nearby” tab
- “Professionals to Know” brings your LinkedIn network front and center (if you choose to connect – it’s still optional!)
- You can now search under the "Directory" tab using a variety of advanced filters, including industry, class year, and advanced degrees
- “News and Social” houses our Swarthmore social media feeds, so you can keep up to date without having to create a Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram account
If you use iOS 7 you’ll notice changes immediately. For iOS 6 and below, you’ll need to update your app through the App Store.

Q: Who can use Swarthmore Connect? Is my information secure?
A: Only Swarthmore alumni can access Swarthmore Connect. In order to use the app, you must use a name and email in the Swarthmore database. iOS users, you will set a password or authenticate your device with LinkedIn. Android users will need access to the aforementioned registered email on your mobile device and will be required to set a 4-digit passcode to open the app after logging in, without which access is denied.
Q: Can I use Swarthmore Connect from my laptop or desktop?
A: No, Swarthmore Connect is only accessible from mobile devices. If you'd like to view directory information from your desktop or laptop computer, please visit the online community here.
Q: How do I get Swarthmore Connect, powered by EverTrue, on my mobile device?
A: Search for "EverTrue" in the Apple App store or Google Play store on your mobile device. Once you have downloaded and opened the app you will be prompted to search for your community. Type in "Swarthmore" and select the correct community.
Q: How do I log in once I’ve downloaded EverTrue and selected the Swarthmore community?
A: Please log in with your first and last name and email address. If the email address matches what we have on file, you will receive an authentication message in your email inbox. iOS users will be prompted to authenticate with LinkedIn or set up a password. Android users must open the authentication email on the mobile device you used to download the app. Click "Verify" in the authentication email and it will grant you access to the app, where you'll set your 4 digit pin.
Q: What does "your information is under review" mean?
A: If the email you provided does not match the one we have on file, you’ll receive an error message. You may try another email address or update your information with Alumni Records by calling 610-328-8435 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
Q: How do I customize my privacy settings or update my contact information
A: If you wish, you may customize your settings so that specific information is suppressed. Contact email@example.com for more information.
Q: I requested specific information about me not appear on Swarthmore Connect. When I log into my profile I can still see the suppressed information. Why?
A: All of the contact information the College has on file for you remains visible to you on your profile page, even if you have suppressed information or opted out of Swarthmore Connect. Other users cannot see your suppressed information. If you’d like to confirm your information was suppressed, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Q: I requested my street address be suppressed but that my city, state, and zip code remain viewable. However, my whole address is currently hidden. Can you fix this?
A: We're in the process of updating our data to allow for suppression of street address only; we do not currently have the capability to hide only part of your address. While we work on correcting that feature we have hidden your complete address to respect your request.
Q: How do I search for people using the directory?
A: Type the name of the person you are seeking in the search box. If you are unsure of the spelling, you may type a few letters in the name, click "Search" and the app will pull a list of possible matches. You also have the option to search by class year by typing a year into the search box. Clicking the magnifying glass icon in the search feature will allow you to find alumni by name, class year, and/or employer
Q: How do I search for people nearby?
A: Click on the Nearby tab in the main menu. A map will appear with pushpins indicating alumni in your area. Clicking on one of the pushpins will open that alum’s listing in the directory. You may also click "List" in the bottom right corner of the map to view a list of people nearby. To search for an alum in the map feature, click on the magnifying glass icon at the top right corner of the map.
Are you traveling and looking to visit Swarthmore alumni in other cities? You may search for users across the globe by entering any zip code, city, state, or country, and the map feature will show you that location along with people in that part of the world. You can also click the magnifying glass icon on the map page to narrow your results. Note: the app’s mapping is based on business information and does not show full home addresses or "live" location information.
Q: Can I call or email alumni directly from the app?
A: Yes, simply click on the email or phone number in the profile of whomever you wish to contact. Phone calls are possible only from devices with phone capability.
Q: How do I connect using my LinkedIn account, and why should I connect?
A: The app allows you to connect and network with other alumni using both LinkedIn and Facebook. On logging in to the app, you will be asked whether you wish to connect via LinkedIn and/or Facebook. Choose one or both, or neither. Once in the app, you can view information that alumni have included in their LinkedIn and Facebook profiles as well as the number of connections you have in common. Anything marked as private in Facebook or LinkedIn remains private. If you are not connected to an alum, you will not see his/her private information, nor will he/she be able to view yours. Don't forget to list Swarthmore College in the education field in your LinkedIn profile, and be sure to join the Swarthmore College LinkedIn group!
If you opt not to immediately connect your LinkedIn and Facebook accounts, you may do so at anytime by going to Settings and clicking on Manage Accounts. Similarly, you may disconnect those accounts at any time.
