Swarthmore Alumni Directory

The Alumni Directory offers alumni and students a way to connect and network with one another. Reconnect with old friends, find fellow Swarthmoreans in your area or with your interests, and expand your professional network. The Alumni Directory is open to all Swarthmore College alumni and students. 

What happened to the old Online Community?

The old Online Community was disabled on March 1, 2016. This change was necessitated by the demise of our former vendor. The good news is that all of the features in the now defunct Online Community, including email forwarding, discussion groups, and the alumni directory, are provided by our new vendor. 

How to Create Your Profile

Students

Log in to the Directory using your Swarthmore credentials. Your directory experience is slightly different; you are not searchable within the directory and you cannot change some pieces of your profile information. Once you graduate, you'll be able to update your information directly from your profile, but for now, any changes need to go through the Registrar's office. You do not need to register, just log in.

Alumni

You will need your College ID number to create a profile in the Alumni Directory. If you do not include your ID number you will not be able to access all of the resources available to alumni in the Directory. Your ID number can be found above your name on the address label of most College mailings, or you can email alumni@swarthmore.edu to request it. When creating your account please include your first name, last name, preferred email address, College ID number, and check the correct affiliation(s) under "How do we know you?"  

After you register you will receive a confirmation email at the email address you provided. Click the link in the email to confirm your identity and create a password. If, in the future, you forget your password, you'll be able to change it yourself through an email reset.

PLEASE NOTE: When you register, be sure to type in your College ID number with the leading zeros (e.g. if your ID is 0000123, type in 0000123).

Alumni Directory Questions, Answers, and Useful Information 

Any changes that you make to your personal record in the Directory are automatically sent to the Alumni Records Office. Those changes will then be made in the College's database. Contact the Alumni & Gift Records Office if you have questions.

This Alumni Directory is a new tool for the College and we're still working out the bugs. Things may not work as smoothly as we'd like right away but we want to know what isn't working for you. Please reach out to alumni@swarthmore.edu if you have any trouble, feedback, frustrations, or concerns.

What if I requested my information stay private in the old Online Community or in Evertrue?
We will continue to honor all requests to suppress entire profiles or specific information. If you've opted out of a previous directory tool, we have opted you out of this Alumni Directory. The Alumni Directory gives you options to hide all or some of your information. If you're concerned, we suggest creating a profile and reviewing your privacy settings. You can opt out of the directory entirely or hide specific information, such as address or employer. 

Can I select which information I would like to remain private?
Yes. Anything in your profile can be hidden or revealed. Once you create a profile and update your information you'll be able to review your privacy settings. Hiding or showing information is as easy as checking a box.

Additionally, we will never display your full street address or email address in the Directory. Your address will only display city, state, and nation. If you elect to allow fellow alumni to contact you through the Directory they will only see your email address if you respond to their message. 

Where did my class or affinity discussion group go?
We’ve moved the discussion groups from the Online Community to the Alumni Office. A complete list of class, affinity, and location-based discussion groups and social media pages are available

What happens if I forget my password? 
Once you create and verify your profile via an active email account you will be able to reset your own password. Click "Forgot Password" on the login page and a password reset link will be emailed to you. 

Does the directory work on my mobile device?
Our new directory is both mobile and web browser compatible. It should look and feel the same no matter what device you use it on! 

Does this switch affect my lifelong email forwarding? 
Yes, you'll need to re-enroll in email forwarding through the new Alumni Directory. You can do this once you've verified your profile. Any @alum.swarthmore.edu address will need to be re-registered.

To re-enroll in email forwarding or set up a new account, log into the Alumni Directory and click the "Home" link on the top right of the page. Under your name in blue on the right will be "Update my profile" and "Email Forwarding" with an email icon.  As a reminder, your @alum.swarthmore.edu address is not an actual inbox, but a forwarding system. Replying to mail sent to your alias@alum.swarthmore.edu will come from your real email account.

Once I re-enroll in email forwarding, do I need to do anything else? 
If you've kept the same email alias as before you will not have to do anything else. Once you've re-enrolled and confirmed your email address all emails sent your @alum.swarthmore.edu address will be sent directly to you. 

Can I change my email alias (the portion before @alum.swarthmore.edu)? I don’t want to use the one I had before.
Of course! Just be sure to share your new email address with anyone who had the old one: Facebook, your credit card company, or grandma are all good examples.

How can I get better search results when I search the directory?

  • Search for a range of class years by using an "en" dash (–) between two distinct years. E.g. 1990–1999
  • Search for multiple options under one category by listing criteria separated by a comma to combine the results of each search word. E.g. "Computer Science, Economics" will search all CS majors and all Economics majors and will combine the results

  • Search for joint items under one criteria by using an "&" or "and" to combine the search for more specific results. E.g. "Computer Science and Economics" or "Computer Science & Economics" will search for double majors

  • Be as specific as possible! The directory will only show you the top 200 results.
