Gina Hart '01

Gina Hart ’01, a high school teacher for only six years, has been named the Philadelphia School District’s Teacher of the Year. Recently, she was also recognized for excellence by the Lindback Foundation. According to Hart’s nominators, the English teacher at Bodine High School for International Affairs brings “a lively spirit to the learning environment,” shows “overwhelming devotion to her students,” and “seeks extra training to improve her craft.” Hart, who says she wanted to give her students the same opportunities she had in high school, runs the Poetry Club, the Latino Writers’ Forum, and the mentally gifted program. She also sponsors the Asian Club, the theater program, and the yearbook and coaches the Academic Club. Principal Ann Gardiner calls Hart “a gem who says yes to everything the kids need.” Hart received a $2,500 stipend and a round-trip ticket to any Southwest Airlines destination within the United States.
