Martha Rice Sanders ’77

Martha Rice Sanders ’77 was selected as the 2009 recipient of the New England Technical Services Librarian’s Award for Excellence in Technical Services. The organization brings together librarians in the region to exchange ideas relating to technical services in libraries. The award acknowledged “her ability to lead, innovate, and boldly face new challenges in technical services.” Sanders was also honored for her “groundbreaking work with digital repositories and electronic resource management in a consortium setting.” She is the knowledge management librarian for the HELIN Library Consortium, a collection of 11 academic libraries, 12 hospital libraries, and the State Law Library. She assists the executive director in running the daily activities of the Consortium. She is also a member of Beta Phi Mu, the international library science honor society. Sanders previously worked as catalog librarian for Providence College, the University of Connecticut, and the University of Illinois, Urbana–Champaign.
