box_matossian_lou_ann.jpgLou Ann Matossian ’77 was honored by New America Media—a collaboration of ethnic news organizations—at the 2009 National Ethnic Media Awards and Expo for excellence in international affairs reporting. The eastern U.S. editor of the Armenian Reporter and program director of the Minneapolis-based Cafesjian Family Foundation was recognized for her two-part reporting on the 2006 ouster of Donald Quataert, board chair of the Institute of Turkish Studies, after he acknowledged the Armenian Genocide in a book review. Other news outlets such as The Washington Post, Chronicle of Higher Education, and London Review of Books later picked up the story. Matossian, who holds a Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania, represents the Armenian Cultural Organization of Minnesota on the Collections Advisory Council of the Immigration History Research Center (IHRC), University of Minnesota. Last November, she presented her research on American missionaries at an international conference in Istanbul, marking the centennial of the Armenian massacres at Adana in 1909.
