Send-offs, Screenings, and Service

San Francisco: Members of the Class of 2019 are receiving warm welcomes to the Swarthmore community at Send-off to Swarthmore events around the world this summer. William Martin ’90 hosted alumni, parents, and students in San Francisco June 24. For additional locations and events, visit Swarthmore.edu/sendoffs. 

Los Angeles: More than 25 alumni, parents, and friends attended a May 6 screening of Minding Swarthmore, a documentary film about the College. The evening, hosted by Vice President for College and Community Relations Maurice Eldridge ’61, included a question-and-answer session with the filmmakers including producer Shayne Lightner ’87. 

Tucson, Ariz.: Laura Markowitz ’85, Tucson’s Connections chair, arranged for fellow alumni to help pack emergency food boxes and sort donated items at the Community Food Bank April 11.

Boston: Lisa Smulyan ’76, the Henry C. and Charlotte Turner Professor and educational studies chair, spoke to alumni, parents, and friends May 7. Her talk, Ask a Teacher: Listening to Leaders Who Make a Difference, was part of the spring Faculty on the Road series. Faculty also spoke in Washington, D.C., and New York City.

Honolulu: In April, Josh Green ’92 hosted an informal potluck barbeque for alumni and prospective members of the Class of 2019 at his home in Honolulu.
