Baseball (20-14, 9-9 CC)
The baseball team secured 20 wins for the second-consecutive year.

A home sweep of nationally ranked Johns Hopkins marked the first time the Garnet had beaten the perennial powerhouse since 2000, the first time the Blue Jays had been swept by a Centennial Conference (CC) opponent since 2007, and Swarthmore baseball’s first-ever victory over a nationally ranked opponent.

Rory McTear ’13, team leader in stolen bases (15) and runs scored (33), and Nicko Burnett ’14, team leader in batting average (.389), on-base percentage (.500 ) and slugging percentage (.528), were selected for the All CC second team. Mike Waterhouse ’12 and Anthony Montalbano ’12 received honorable mention.

Paul Weston ’12 earned All-Centennial Conference honors for the second consecutive season, finishing third with a three-round total of 230 at the CCC.

Golf (5th CC)
Paul Weston ’12 earned All-CC honors for the second consecutive season, finishing third, with a three-round total of 230, at the CC Championships at Stonewall Golf Club in Elverson, Pa. The Garnet finished first in four events and broke the program’s all-time 18-hole team low score (303) at the Wilmington University Spring Classic. At the McDaniel Spring Invitational in March, Swarthmore finished second overall in a field of 14 and first among CC teams.

Men’s Lacrosse (4-11, 2-6 CC)
The Garnet picked up two nonconference wins over Wooster and Whittier and two CC wins over Muhlenberg and Washington, marking the second consecutive year the team has knocked off the Shoremen after a 57-year drought.

Freshman Jonathan Molloy ’14, leading a youthful Garnet team on offense, recorded a team-high 27 points and tied Max Hubbard ’12 for the team lead in goals (21). Wes Marcik ’13 added 10 goals and six assists, and Brendan Conway ’14 and Daniel Kowalyshyn ’14 each scored 10.

Recognized for her work both on the field and in the classroom, lacrosse defender Maddie Williams ’12 was named to the All-Centennial team for the second-consecutive season and honored as the PhillyLacrosse.com Scholar Athlete of the Week for the week ending April 26.

Women’s Lacrosse (9-7, 3-6 CC)
The women’s lacrosse team made significant strides during the 2011 campaign. Needing to win its two final games to make the postseason, the Garnet rallied to defeat eventual playoff participant Washington College 13-12, but, with a playoff berth hanging in the balance, the Garnet saw a 7-4 second-half lead against Haverford slip away as the Fords scored five unanswered goals over a 14-minute span.

Annalise Penikis ’12 recorded one of the best all-around individual seasons the program has seen in recent memory, leading the team and the CC in goals (63), assists (37), and points (100). By hitting the 100-point mark on her final goal of the season, Penikis became just the fourth player in Swarthmore history and ninth in CC history to hit 100 points in a single season. She was named to the CC First Team and the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Assn.’s All-Metro Region First Team.

Softball (7-23, 3-13 CC)
Kira Kern ’11 and Kate Smayda ’13 were named to the All-CC second team. After an All-CC Honorable Mention performance as a junior, Kern led the team in on-base percentage (.364) and runs scored (20). Smayda was the team’s top performer at the plate this season, leading the squad in batting average (.321), hits (26) and slugging percentage (.370).

Men’s Tennis (12-7, 8-1 CC)
Thanks to an eight-match winning streak to close out the regular season, the men’s tennis team finished 8-1 in conference play en route to the No. 2 seed in the 2011 CC playoffs.

Men’s midfielder Keane Ehsani ’14 is one of 15 freshmen who provided a solid foundation for Garnet men’s lacrosse.

The Garnet ran off eight wins in a row leading into the CC playoffs, including a dominating 7-2 win over Haverford. Unfortunately, the season ended in a 5-2 loss against No. 3 seed Franklin & Marshall.

Max Kaye ’14 and Max Bressman ’12 were named to the All-CC team, pairing up for second-team doubles honors. Kaye was also selected second-team singles, finishing the season 11-10 in singles play— one of just four freshmen to make the All-CC team. Bressman and Kaye finished 13-6 in doubles play, including a conference-best 7-1 in CC play.

Women’s Tennis (9-9, 8-2 CC)
Lia Carlson ’14 finished the season 8-4 in singles play from the No. 1 position and was 6-1 against CC opponents to lead the Garnet women’s tennis team back to the CC playoffs in 2011.

Carlson earned CC Second-Team honors and a No. 23 ranking among singles players in the ITA’s Atlantic South region.

The Garnet finished the CC slate 8-2,  highlighted by 9-0 sweeps of McDaniel, Franklin and Marshall, and Bryn Mawr, and an 8-1 victory over rival Haverford.

Women’s Track and Field (6th CC)
Five CC medalists, three new school records, and one national qualifier highlighted a sensational season for the women’s track-and-field team. Kenyetta Givans ’12, who earned gold medals in the 100-meter (14.73) and 400-meter (1:03.15) hurdles and broke the school records in both events, was named the Most Outstanding Women’s Track Performer of the meet.

Rebecca Hammond ’13 toppled the school record in the 800 meters at the Swarthmore Last Chance Meet with a time of 2:13.44, qualifying for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championship Meet. Hammond shone at the CC meet, earning a gold medal in the 4×800 meter relay— teaming up with Katie Gonzalez ’12, Hannah Rose ’12, and Stephanie Beebe ’12 to win by a convincing two seconds (9:23.18)—and a silver in the 1,500 meters, finishing in a time of 4:42.20 and ranking second all-time.

Men’s Track and Field (9th, CC)
Jacob Phillips ’13 enjoyed great runs in the 10,000-meter run at the CC Championships, recording the second-fastest time (31:48.17) in program history, then taking second-place all-time in the 5,000 meters with a time of 14:58.39 at the season-ending Last Chance Meet. At the CC Championships, Daniel Ly ’12 brought home a bronze medal for a second consecutive season, this time in the men’s high jump, thanks to a season-best high jump of 1.75 meters.
