Nick Lum ’04’s BeeLine Reader startup won the $50,000 Microsoft Education Award at the Tech Awards, an international technology competition that honors 10 laureates using technology “for the benefit of humanity.” A former corporate lawyer, Lum created BeeLine Reader, a tool that makes reading on-screen easier and faster. BeeLine Reader displays text using a subtle color gradient, which enables more efficient visual tracking and increases reading ease and speed. BeeLine Reader also won first place in Stanford’s social entrepreneurship competition in 2014 and received funding from Intel Capital.
