Four years of Swarthmore found in Alaska.

As a black, Hispanic female from Linwood, Pa., I was not the typical Swarthmore engineering student. In fact I was only able to attend thanks to Swarthmore’s generous financial aid package. 

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been interested in how a space becomes a place. To me, a place is where people feel welcome to hang out, come and go as they please, and return repeatedly.

Just weeks after my graduation from Swarthmore Will Shortz, crossword editor of The New York Times, asked me to be his assistant for a year.
