Santa Fe: Twenty-eight alumni, parents, and friends came out to enjoy the annual Santa Fe Indian Market, the largest Native-American arts market and exhibition in the country. After visiting the market and interacting with the more than 100 tribal artists presenting their work, the Swarthmoreans shared refreshments and conversation at the home of Jan Merin ’85. Many thanks go to Ruth Rand ’56 for organizing this event.

Chicago: Chicago-area alumni, parents, and friends gathered in Millennium Park to enjoy a concert performed by the Grant Park Orchestra.

Washington, D.C.: Rachel Buurma ’99, assistant professor of English literature and the D.C. Book Group mentor for 2012-13, gave a talk on Oct. 7 at Politics & Prose Bookstore to introduce the group’s reading list. This year’s theme is “The Victorian Novel and the Promise of Print.”

Please note that Pamela Zurer ’71, who has ably coordinated the D.C. Book Group for the last few years, will retire from those duties at the end of the academic year.
