Alumni in Chicago gathered on April 13 to hear Associate Professor of Astronomy Eric Jensen lecture on “Planets Near and Far: Understanding Our Own Solar System Better by Studying Others.” Among the participants were couples Thu Le Dong and Sam Awuah ’94, and Steve ’57 and Betty Lloyd.

New York City: Alumni in New York City, including (left to right) Carl Courant ’73 and his parents Ernest Courant ’40 and Sara Paul Courant, came together to catch up, eat brunch, and hear Associate Professor of Music Thomas Whitman ’82 lecture on Benjamin Britten’s Peter Grimes.

In March, alumni in New York City, including Carl Courant ’73 and his parents Ernest Courant ’40 and Sara Paul Courant, came together to catch up, eat brunch, and hear Associate Professor of Music Thomas Whitman ’82 lecture on Benjamin Britten’s Peter Grimes. Following the lecture, many alumni walked to Lincoln Center to see the matinee performance of Peter Grimes, while others went to local movie theaters to view a high-definition simulcast.

On May 5, in Portland, Ore., Professor of Philosophy Richard Schuldenfrei led more than 40 alumni and friends in a discussion on the “Problems of Freedom.” Helped by those in attendance and with a marker in hand, Professor Schuldenfrei dissected the concept of freedom as if it were a complicated math problem.
