RIAs program begins its 5th year
by Sara Powell
This September, the Libraries welcomed a new cohort of Research & Information Associates (RIAs). Founded in fall 2013 by librarians Pam Harris and Sarah Elichko, the RIAs Program was implemented to keep McCabe’s Research & Information Desk staffed in the evenings and on the weekend. Since then, the program has grown considerably to include study breaks, collaborations with Writing Associates, and regular “Research & Rescue” co-working events.
RIAs are equipped to work with their fellow students throughout the research process and across disciplines. Pam, Sarah, and librarian Sara Powell hold training sessions throughout the semester to further RIAs’ ability to discover and explore relevant literature and to contextualize source material.
We are pleased to announce that, this fall, we are trialing expanded desk hours, based on RIA feedback. Stop by the R&I Desk to say hello to returning RIAs Sam Herron, Amanda Lee, and Angelina Abitino and newcomers Naja Smith, Katherine Kwok, Judy Al, Jun Rendich, Ashley Lê, and Theresa Ng'andu. In addition, Jessica Berg, Steven Chen, and Alex Jin will begin their regular shifts in the spring.
