Associate Professor in the French section of the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures. A specialist in early modern literature, his teaching and research also include theories of discourse and philosophies of language from the ancient Greeks to the post-moderns, and cultural studies. Jean-Vincent has taught the Interpretation Theory capstone seminar with Scott Gilbert (Biology), Cynthia Halpern (Political Science), Richard Eldridge (Philosophy) and Robin-Wagner-Pacifici (Sociology). Jean-Vincent will offer his course "Introduction to French Cultural and Critical Theory" in Spring 2012. Professor Blanchard has published two books, The Optics of Discourse, and The Implausibility of Power. He is finishing a biography of Cardinal Richelieu, and a study of the architectonics of power in Seventeenth-Century France.
