I am writing to follow up on an email you received last week detailing our student testing process. I have new information on our testing protocols that affects students who are under the age of 18.
Our testing vendor, Everlywell, recently notified us of a company policy that prohibits testing individuals under the age of 18. They are working to quickly update this policy to allow for such testing, and we expect that change to occur very soon. To be clear, this is simply an issue of Everlywell’s internal policies; medically speaking, there is no difference between administering a test to an 18 year old versus a 17 year old.
Until Everlywell is able to update this policy, and in order to provide all students with the testing outlined in our original message, we have partnered with Labcorp to provide testing for students under the age of 18. All students under 18 will begin testing on Wednesday, Sept. 2. If you are scheduled to move in on Sept. 1, you are still able to do so. As detailed in the Garnet Pledge for Students, please make sure that you practice physical distancing and wear your mask at all times while outside of your own dorm room.
You will be expected to arrive for your testing on Wednesday, Sept. 2 at the same time you were scheduled to move in. For instance, if you are scheduled to move in on Tuesday at 10 a.m., you will still move in on Tuesday at 10 a.m., and you will take your test on Wednesday at 10 a.m. If you are scheduled to move in on Tuesday at 1 p.m., you will arrive for move in on Tuesday at 1 p.m., and you will take your test on Wednesday at 1 p.m.. If you are scheduled to move in on Wednesday, you will take the test when you arrive on campus prior to receiving your room key.
Students under 18 will test on a weekly basis with the Labcorp provided test kits throughout the initial three-week student testing program. That means you will show up on Wednesday Sept. 2 for your first test, then Wednesday Sept. 9 for your second test, and Wednesday Sept. 16 for your third test. The Labcorp testing will take place at the student testing tent, the same location as the Everlywell testing, located between the Public Safety building and the Worth Health Center. The cost of the tests will be covered by the College.
We apologize for this unanticipated change in plans. Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions.
