New Student COVID Testing Protocols

Dear Students ,

I want to thank you for your participation in our student COVID-19 testing program thus far. We have conducted more than 1,500 student tests during the past three weeks and, to date, have received only one positive test result. We are grateful for your patience and cooperation with this process.

When we originally announced our student testing protocols, we indicated that we would reevaluate our approach after students received their first three tests. Based on the results so far, and in consultation with our infectious disease specialist, we are planning to transition away from testing every student on a weekly basis to a staggered testing model.

In this model, we will test 25% of our residential student body each week. This will be done in randomized groups; each residential student has been assigned to a Group A, B, C or D. This randomization will allow us to test a cross section of our campus community throughout the remainder of the semester.

Effective next week, all tests will be conducted on Wednesdays following the schedule below. Please note that if we begin to see an increase in positive tests, we may revert back to testing all students on a weekly basis or make other changes to our testing protocols. We will continue to update you on any changes to our processes.

The testing schedules below include the location and time that the student testing sites will be open. We’ve also included rain locations in the event of inclement weather.

Please carefully review this schedule to know when and where you are expected to be tested. This schedule will also be posted to our Student Testing, Contact Tracing, and Monitoring Process website this coming weekend.

It is imperative that we continue to work towards the Common Good and complete testing as scheduled. Failing to do so will be considered a violation of the Garnet Pledge for Students that you agreed to prior to returning to campus and may result in you losing your ability to live on campus for the remainder of the fall semester.

The success we’ve experienced in keeping the prevalence of COVID-19 on campus extremely low is a testament to your cooperation and diligence. For that success to continue, it is essential that we all remain vigilant about following our protocols, including mask wearing, physical distancing, hand washing, and limiting gatherings to no more than 10 people in approved public spaces and no more than one guest in private rooms. Even complacency on these fronts increases the risk of spreading COVID-19 to your friends, peers, and the rest of the campus community, and threatens our ability to continue offering you this on-campus experience.

Thank you again for your efforts and commitment to keeping our community safe. We truly appreciate all that you are doing to help us navigate this incredibly challenging time.

Sincerely,
Casey Anderson
Director of Student Health and Wellness Services
