New COVID-19 Testing Protocols

Dear Faculty and Staff Members,

In light of recent guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), we are updating the College’s COVID-19 testing requirements as detailed below. The following changes go into effect June 1.

Weekly Surveillance Testing

Effective June 1, fully vaccinated faculty and staff members will no longer be required to participate in weekly COVID-19 surveillance testing. As a reminder, you are fully vaccinated two weeks after receiving the second dose of the Pfizer or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine, or the single dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

We will also no longer require fully vaccinated faculty and staff members to quarantine if they are identified as a close contact of someone who has COVID-19, assuming the faculty or staff member is symptom-free.

Individuals who are not fully vaccinated who come to campus for work and expect to interact with others for 15 minutes or more must continue to participate in weekly surveillance testing. If your work requires you to come to campus but you have no expectation of interacting with others, you will not need to perform weekly testing during the summer term, regardless of vaccination status.

COVID-19 Test Kit Distribution

The distribution of COVID-19 test kits will now be fully centralized; anyone who must continue to test will need to pick up test kits at the campus post office during normal operating hours. Please note that members of Facilities, Dining, and Public Safety must now also pick up their test kits at the campus post office.

You may collect up to four kits at one time. If you are unable to make it to the post office, you can request COVID-19 test kits by mail. You can return your completed test kit to the post office for collection or drop it in a UPS collection bin.

Vaccination Status Form

To ensure proper adherence to the testing protocols, we are now requiring that all faculty and staff members fill out the College’s vaccination status form in MySwarthmore. (See instructions below.)

You may still decline to share whether you’ve received the vaccine, but you must go to the form and select the Decline option. Individuals who decline to share their information with us will be required to follow the testing protocols for unvaccinated faculty and staff members.

We want to take this opportunity to remind everyone to remain vigilant in their efforts to reduce the spread of COVID-19. While the increased access to vaccines is encouraging, please remember that many people have not yet had their first vaccine, others have not had their second vaccine, and many children have not yet been approved for the vaccine.

Please remember that, if you develop symptoms and/or you test positive for COVID-19 through one of our testing companies or an off-campus site, you must not come to campus, and you should notify your supervisor immediately. (Please note that you are not required to share your specific diagnosis. However, promptly notifying the College that you’ve tested positive for COVID-19 allows us to perform contact tracing for the safety of the College community.)

Action Required: How to Indicate Your Vaccination Status in MySwarthmore

All faculty and staff members are now required to complete the College’s Vaccination Status Form. To do so, follow these steps:

  • Log in to MySwarthmore at
  • Select the Employee Main Menu.
  • Select the COVID-19 Vaccination Record page.

We urge all employees to get a COVID-19 vaccination and share that information with the College. Please note that you will need a photo of your completed CDC vaccination card to complete this process.

  • If you received the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, enter the date of your second dose. If you received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, enter the date of your single dose. Select Next once you have entered this information.
  • Select Browse to locate the image or picture file you wish to upload, then select Submit.

If you elect not to provide this information to the College, please select one of the remaining three options: 

  • “I decline to provide this information.”
  • “I plan to get vaccinated, but I have not yet received the vaccine.”
  • “I do not plan to get vaccinated.”

Once you’ve made your selection, click “Submit.”
