After careful consideration and close consultation with public health officials and members of the campus community, we reached the difficult conclusion that we cannot safely and responsibly host a traditional in-person Commencement this spring. Instead, we are looking forward to celebrating the extraordinary accomplishments of the Class of 2021 at the Commencement ceremony on campus on Sunday, May 30, and during an online ceremony on Sunday, June 6.
While our planning efforts for these celebrations are ongoing, we are very pleased to share that graduates will be allowed to invite up to two guests to campus for the May 30 event:
- We expect this event will take place at 9 a.m., and that most seniors will move-out that afternoon.
- We cannot offer overnight housing for guests who attend the in-person celebration.
- This event will take place outdoors, rain or shine. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we cannot move the celebration indoors.
- Campus facilities will remain closed to guests. It’s unlikely that we’ll be able to offer a place for guests to view the celebration indoors on campus.
We will continue to monitor the pandemic and consult with public health and medical experts to help guide our decision-making, and we will continue to prioritize the health and safety of our community members. We are eager to ensure that we can all celebrate Commencement in a safe and meaningful way.
