	1. SHH signaling is required for epithelial placodes to elongate to the short bud stage. 2. SHH signaling is required to maintain shhexpression in the epithelial placodes. 3. This suggests that SHH is involved in a feedback loop between epithelial and mesenchymal signaling molecule(s) that regulates shhexpression.
