Meet the Wizards

Nicole Aaron '14: E5 Wizard

Nicole Aaron

I am a sophomore from Dallas, Texas. I'm interested in Engineering, Biology and Environmental Studies. This summer I was a camp counselor where I taught softball and swimming, and I'm on the Swat softball team. I loved E5, and I can't wait to help out some baby engineers!

Alex Burka '12: E28 Wizard

Alex Burka

I am a senior from Winchester, Massachusetts and I am interested in electrical and computer engineering. In my free time there's a good chance I'll be playing frisbee or tinkering with computer programs. I'm involved with the campus Democrats and SCCS. This summer I had an amazing experience doing engineering research with Professor Zucker and I feel like I should give something back to other engineers. Plus, teaching things is a great way to learn them.

Ozan Erturk '12: E11 Wizard

Ozan Erturk

Hello, I am Ozan (most people call me Ozy). I am a senior from Turkey and I am interested in electrical engineering and nanotechnology. My most recent research is on microelectromechanical systems and microfabrication. I play percussion for several ensembles and sing a cappella. I also love teaching; I am very intrigued by how people learn differently and every time I try to explain something different I learn something, too.

Jillian Ma '14: E5 Wizard

Jillian Ma

Hello, I'm Jillian. I am a sophomore and a prospective engineering major or minor with an interest in cognitive science too. I was accepted to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, but I told Dumbledore that I'd rather be a wizard at Swarthmore College. I love teaching and meeting other students, and I am excited to be a wizard this year!

I am a junior planning to double major in Engineering and Computer Science. At Swarthmore, my main hobby outside of academics is ultimate frisbee, although I also really love water sports, such as sailing. Wizarding is great because it allows me to reinforce my own knowledge of the class material as well as help others learn for the first time.

Katie Samuelson '14: E5 Wizard

Katie Samuelson

I am a sophomore from East Wakefield, NH interested in Civil or Structural engineering, although I haven't decided which field of engineering I will pursue. I am a member of SWE and play tennis for Swarthmore. During the summer I teach tennis but also enjoy water-skiing and being outside. The Wizard program has been very helpful to me and because of that I chose to be a Wizard to give back to the program and help other students who might be in the same position that I was in. Being a Wizard also gives me the opportunity to work with and get to know other students.

Rebekah Yang '12: Physics 3 Wizard

Rebekah Yang

I am a senior from Chandler, AZ. I'm interested in civil engineering and recently came back from an environmental studies program abroad in Cape Town, South Africa. I think Wizard sessions are a great place to get to know fellow engineers, so I hope to be useful in offering help and look forward to meeting lots of other students as well!
