Links Within a Page

Working with Anchors

Icons related to creating and breaking links as well as anchor

You can link to a particular place on a page by using the Anchor button in the editor.  It looks like a flag and is grouped with creating and breaking links.

To create an anchor, place the cursor at the beginning section of the page you want to link to and then choose the anchor icon above.

Basic Rules

When creating anchors make sure there are no spaces.  If you are using multiple words you can use dashes or underscores between words or you could write the anchor in "camel" case.  Text can be upper or lower case or a mixture of upper and lower cases. Here are some examples:

  • basic-rules
  • Basic-Rules
  • Basic_Rules
  • basicRules

Linking to Anchors On The Same Page

  • Create the link and choose "URL or link to document"
  • Under Protocol choose "Other".
  • Under "URL", prepend the anchor text with #.

By way of example if I wanted to link to my basicRules anchor, I would enter  #basicRules

Linking to Anchors On Another Page

Prep Work

Before starting you will need two things:

  • the anchor text and
  • copy the url of the page which contains the anchor

The Steps

  • Create the link and choose "URL or link to document"
  • Under Protocol choose "http://",
  • Under URL paste the URL you copied above starting with www, add the # at the end that and then add the anchor text

By way of example to link to The Swarthmore Fund pane from the Giving page, the URL in the Link Info would look like this: www.swarthmore.edu/swarthmorefund/50th-reunion-class-agents#TheSwarthmor... Note:  no http:// or https://
