Career Counseling for Students
Career Exploration and Self-Assessment
Career Services is an important part of student life at Swarthmore. We offer individualized attention to students who are seeking direction, considering majors, exploring internships, job searching or applying for graduate school. In-depth assistance is provided by appointment for students who want to clarify career direction or determine occupations of interest. In our meetings with students, we like to get to know you -- what interests you, motivates you, inspires you; what your values are, your commitments and ways you want to make a difference. Our conversations can help you clarify your interests, skills and values, and sometimes we use inventories as well -- like the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and the Campbell Interests and Skill Survey. Our goal is to help you connect what you know about yourself to potential careers and to help you make an informed choice about where you want to start your life after Swarthmore.
Career Counselors also offer assistance with career planning and developing your job and internship search strategies. We offer a wide range of assistance in preparing for positions, including resume development, cover letter writing and mock interviews. If graduate school is in your future, we will also assist with your application process. Programs and workshops to assist with career planning are also offered regularly. Maybe you're ready to being a conversation now, maybe not until next semester, after exams or even after graduation. We are always here -- when you are ready. We also help recent grads in their job search, grad school applications, and alumni with career transitions later in life. Drop by our office in 135 Parrish with quick questions or to have a resume reviewed by our trained Career Peer Advisors, who are available each weekday afternoon between 1 and 4:30 p.m. More in-depth appointments with a Career Counselor are typically available the very next day so you won't miss an application deadline or fail to be prepared for an interview. To set-up an appointment, please stop by Parrish 135 or call us at 610-328-8352.
