Marandola and Heitz Named to All-Centennial Softball Squad

Senior shortstop Heather Marandola (Madison, ME &endash; Madison) and first-year second baseman Gretchen Heitz (Oakton, VA &endash; Thomas Jefferson) were named to the 2001 All-Centennial Conference Softball Second team today in a vote by the conference's head coaches.

Marandola repeats as a second-team performer while Heitz becomes the first Garnet freshman to earn second-team all-conference honors.

Heitz led the squad with eight RBI and was second on the team with 17 hits and a .315 batting average. Marandola started all 25 games and led the squad with six extra base hits including four doubles and two triples and was second on the team with eight runs scored. Marandola hit .208 on the season.

For her four-year career, Marandola saw action in all 108 games, recorded a .322 batting average collecting 107 hits in 332 at bats, scored 61 runs, drove in 33 runs, posted a .401 slugging percentage and was a perfect 15-of-15 in stolen bases.

Swarthmore posted a 5-20 record on the season and were 5-11 in Centennial play.
