English Named Centennial Conference Field Hockey Player of the Year

Team Places Four on All-Centennial Team

 

Swarthmore College senior midfielder Kristen English (Plymouth Meeting, PA / Plymouth Whitemarsh) was a unanimous first-team All-Centennial Conference field hockey selection and was also named the Conference's Player of the Year in balloting conducted by the Conference's 10 head coaches. A two-time first-team All-Centennial selection, she had five goals and two assists on the season.

Joining English on the first team was junior defender Katie Tarr (Glen Mills, PA / Garnet Valley). Tarr had a career-best six goals and two assists on the season and added 12 defensive saves.

Junior forward Kim Cariello (Hudson, OH &endash; Western Reserve) and senior back Katie Vivalo (Salisbury, MD &endash; James Bennett) were named to the second team. Cariello led the team in scoring with a career-high 12 goals and five assists. Cariello placed third in the Centennial in goals scored and fourth in total points with 24. Vivalo recorded a career-high four assists and two defensive saves.

Swarthmore finished its season with 14-7 overall record and reached the quarterfinals of the Eastern College Athletic Conference Mid-Atlantic Championships. It was the Garnet's third post-season appearance in four years. Swarthmore finished in second place in the Centennial, posting a 7-2 record.
