# 6 Frostburg State Tops #3 Swarthmore 2-1

in ECAC Mid-Atlantic Field Hockey First Round Play

Swarthmore, PA (11/1/00)-- Sophomore Kim Faust (Ambler, PA - Upper Dublin) scored the game-winning goal to give sixth-seeded Frostburg State a 2-1 victory over third-seeded Swarthmore in first round ECAC Mid-Atlantic Field Hockey Championship action. Faust blasted a corner pass from Adey Ntam (Silver Spring, MD - John F. Kennedy) into the back of the cage with 11:59 remaining in the game to give the Bobcats the lead.

Frostburg State evened the contest just minutes earlier when junior Katie Harrington (Prince Frederick, MD - Calvert) deflected a Sara Cavey (Ellicott City, MD - Mount Hebron) shot past Swarthmore goalkeeper Kate Nelson-Lee (Jamestown, RI - The Wheeler School) at the 16:45 mark of second period. Nelson-Lee turned away 11 Bobcat shots on the day.

The Garnet countered, as the offense peppered FSU goalkeeper Crystal Carter (Hurlock, MD - North Dorcester) with shots, forcing a penalty stroke with 5:47 remaining in the game. Senior midfielder Kristen English (Plymouth Meeting, PA - Plymouth Whitemarsh), who had converted four of five strokes on the season was called on to attempt the shot. English went left and Carter guessed correctly knocking the shot away, to preserve the one goal lead. Carter posted 14 saves.

Swarthmore took a 1-0 at the 21:06 mark of the first half when sophomore Meg Woodworth (Lexington, MA &endash; Middlesex) deflected an English shot past Carter. Swarthmore and Frostberg State each posted 21 shots, while the Bobcats had a 12-10 advantage in penalty corners.

Frostburg State improves to 11-6 and will advance to the semifinals at Montclair State on Saturday when they challenge the host #2 seed Red Hawks at 2:00 pm. Swarthmore's season comes to a close at 14-7.
