Coaching Staff

Head Coach -- Pat Gress

Pat Gress begins his sixth year as head men's lacrosse coach at Swarthmore. Gress, a 1991 graduate of Towson University, has guided the rebuilding of the men's lacrosse team to a nationally competitive level. The '00 team posted its best record in 15 years and was selected to the ECAC Southern Championship.

At Towson, Gress was a history and secondary education major, four year varsity letterman and winner of the James Saxon Memorial Award for Outstanding Leadership. Upon graduation, he assisted North Harford High School in Harford County, MD from '91 to '93. From there, Gress assisted Franklin and Marshall College for two years helping the team reach the NCAA Tournament in 1995.

Presently, Gress is completing a Masters Degree in Administration at West Chester University and teaching classes in the physical education department at Swarthmore.


Mike Steuber

Steuber enters his third season as the defensive coach for the Garnet Tide. Last season's defense, under Coach Steuber's direction, ranked second in the Conference in man down percentage (76%) and third in goals against (9.93). Steuber was a four-year starter at West Chester University before graduating in 1994 with a degree in Health and Physical Education. He currently teaches Health and Physical Education at nearby Ridley High School and recently completed his Masters Degree in Education at Saint Joseph's University.

Marc Schaffer

Marc Schaffer begins his second season with the men's lacrosse program after a stellar career at Saint Joseph's University. Schaffer, a three time team captain and two time All MAAC Conference defender for St. Joe's, participated in the '98 North South All Star game before graduating with a Food Marketing degree. For the past two seasons, he has played for the MAB Paints lacrosse club earned First Team All USCLA recognition for the '00 season. Currently Schaffer works as an associate product manager at Synthes Maxiollofacial.
