About the Presidency

The President's key challenge is to sustain and enhance Swarthmore's excellence in liberal arts education in a highly competitive and ever more globalized environment. Among other things, the President:
 

• Provides leadership and vision for the College consonant with the mission, history, and culture of the institution and focused on its future.
• Increases the national and international visibility of Swarthmore and plays a leading role in articulating the transformational impact of a liberal arts college education to the general public.
• Engages the community in shaping a strategic plan for Swarthmore's next decade that will position it for continued success far beyond that period.
• Communicates with passion Swarthmore's vision and needs to a wide variety of constituencies.
• Assures Swarthmore the financial resources it will need to continue to provide an educational experience of unsurpassed quality to its students regardless of their ability to pay.
